Is Barefoot Running Making Footwear Obsolete?

Humans have been running for hundreds of thousands of years. Shoes, on the other hand, are a fairly recent invention. It wasn’t until recently that high tech running shoes were available to the general public at an affordable price. If you are wondering about the difference between running barefoot and running with high tech shoes, then this article is for you.

It has been commonly accepted knowledge that running with shoes is much safer, as the highly designed cushioning protects the body from the strong impact. For years this has been the general consensus. But when Abebe Bikila won the 1960 Olympic marathon without any shoes, that shattered these long held notions. Could it be that running barefoot was just as good, or even better than with shoes?

By studying how people run, scientists have discovered that people run differently with and without shoes. Not the same person, mind you. Somebody who has run barefoot for quite a while will have a completely different gait than somebody who is used to running with shoes. The shoe runner generally lands on the heel first, and the rolls over to the ball of their foot.

People who are accustomed to running barefoot, on the other hand, tend to land first on the ball of their feet, and then quickly come down with their heel. The time between the ball of the foot striking the ground, and the heel landing is enough time for the calf muscle to absorb nearly all of the shock. With the calf muscle absorbing most of the impact, there’s no need for expensive running shoes that need to be replaced every six months.

The two main drawbacks to running barefoot are both related to time. Since changing the way you run takes considerable time and concentrated effort, it can be a while before your running as far and as fast as you are with your running shoes. It also takes time to develop the necessary calluses in order to protect you from sharp pointy things you may come across on the ground.

People that have been running barefoot claim it is much better, and safer than running with shoes. They say that if you run barefoot, there’s a much lower chance of sustaining injuries. The question then, is which is better for you? Shoes or no shoes?

If you happen to be a serious runner, and committed to taking the time to make the switch to running without shoes, then by all means, go ahead. Just realize that it may take a few weeks before your up to your normal distance and speed. But you can look forward to a lifetime of running with much fewer injuries, and much money saved. On the other hand, if you only run occasionally, and really can’t see yourself putting in the time to learn a brand new running style, then sticking with shoes is probably your best option.

How To Spruce Up Your Office Renovations

Office renovations can be stressful and disruptive to work. Some renovations are quick and painless, but some are not. If your office is being redecorated, or you are considering doing it yourself, there are a few things you should expect.

The first step in any redecoration project is to determine why you are doing the project. People renovate for many different reasons, and your decorating choices be taken in consideration with your needs. For instance, are you buying a space that was previously used for another type of industry, such as a boutique, but you intend to turn it into a tanning salon? Do you want to create space or divide space? Is the office just old or boring looking? Updating an office space can be a great way to improve employee morale and attract more customers and clients.

Renovations can range from large projects to minor redecorations. Either way, you should expect the office interior or exterior to be painted. You may want your walls to be a different color, or just want a fresh coat of paint on the color you already have. If your interior is being painted, you will have to move all your furniture away from the walls, and out of the room completely if possible. Talk to your contractor and decide what needs to be done prior to painting.

When you are satisfied with the color of your walls, the next step is hang art. Even a freshly painted wall could look empty, especially if the wall is long or narrow. Paintings come in every size and style, so it is easy to customize an office through art. Other ways to add to your walls are to install decorative sconces and shelving. Laying your new flooring on a weekend will reduce the disruption of work if your office is functional during the renovation. Most flooring companies work on the weekends, though they might charge a slightly higher rate.

When it comes to personal style, it’s all about preference. You should wear what you like. If you try to wear something just because it is popular, but you’re not really comfortable when wearing it, it will not look right on you and you will not be happy.

Wearing something that you are not comfortable wearing is not fun and if you are not completely comfortable wearing it, you will not be able to pull off the look. What is the point of just wearing something to fit in anyway? If it is not your style, who cares if it is the style, don’t waste your time and effort. You are better off wearing what you like and what you feel comfortable wearing. If it happens to be the most current fad or style, so be it.

One thing that everyone can agree on, regardless of what is popular and what is hot, are t-shirts. T-shirts never go out of style as a rule. Sometimes what’s printed on them can be out of date, but even that works for the advantage of most people. One of the best things about t-shirts and one of the things that do make them so popular is that they enable you to be an individual.

Even if you are wearing a logo of a very popular band on the shirt, something that everybody knows just by looking at it, it can still show your individuality because you are showing something that you like. Maybe it is not the version of the shirt that you get at the mall, but an actual concert shirt with tour dates. That is even better because the more unique the shirt, the better it is. A million people can wear a million t-shirts and no two people have to have the same exact one. Besides being so unique and allowing one to express his or her individuality, t-shirts offer another huge benefit.

They are so comfortable. Who wants to wear a shirt with stiff collar when you can throw on a t-shirt at home? They are so comfortable that many people wear a t-shirt to sleep because even pajamas are not as comfortable as a t-shirt.
